For the second sequel to the two preceding & supremely scary REC films Spanish frightmasters Paco Plaza & Jaume Balaguero take us to the wedding of Clara & Koldo and introduce us to all the guests as they are infected by the contagion that’s now zombifying the entire population. Overtly jokey (like any wedding) but not without deadly serious limb-lopping.

Paco Plaza returns to direct this self-referential entry into the franchise, which goes back to the genesis of the dangerous viral infection of previous films. It’s Koldo and Clara’s big wedding day, everything is hunky dory until guests show signs of a violent illness. Soon after, all hell breaks loose as the sanctity of marriage is overrun with bloodthirsty monsters and it’s up to the bride to save the day!

The [REC] franchise is without doubt one of the best things to happen to the zombie sub-genre in decades and REC 3 GENESIS easily lives up to the lofty standards of the previous two. Gory, thrilling, brilliant – what more could you want at 11pm on a Saturday night?
