New DVD releases: July 1st – 7th

As July hacks its way into the jugular of 2013, DVD’s and Blu-rays come streaming, spraying and squirting their way into shops creating a veritable smorgasbord of celluloid blood and mayhem!

To help bring you hungry fiends to the feast, we have compiled a list of genre gems set to be released this month. The list below lets you know whats hitting on which format, plus we have all the release dates so you’ll know when your film/s of interest are slashing across shelves.

COOL AS ICE (1991): Director: David Kellogg. Starring: Vanilla Ice, Naomi Campbell, Deezer D. (DVD)
Back in 1991 Vanilla Ice was all the rage – well so his marketing machine kept telling us at the time! As much as they might deny it now a lot of people thought old ‘Ice Baby’ was a pretty darn happening thing – many others thought him to be a right twat! In a hilarious effort to cash in on his moment in the sun someone came up with the birght idea to spew out this rapper re-hash of THE WILD ONE – with Icey in the Brando hotseateeekk!! The Ice Man arrives to rescue a family living in the 50’s and bring them up to speed with the rapper ways of the early 90’s, what follows is the one of the most delightful cringfests you are ever likely to witness. This is not kind of cheese you find in the dairy section of Coles, this is the rarest most pungent and beautiful kind that herders make on the Mongolian Steppes – rich, oily, and rotten but fabulous and tasty beyond belief!

Classic Australian film about kid thawing bank robbers with their bmx bikes. It’s light on plot but heavy on fun.

An agoraphobic man has to protect his newborn daughter from a gang of hooded thugs.

SHOCK ENTERTAINMENT
Jack’s Back (1988): Director: Rowdy Herrington. Starring: James Spader, Cynthia Gibb, Jim Haynie.  (DVD)
One hundred years ago in the city of London a man shocked the world by murdering, raping and mutilating five women. He was never caught. James Spader plays twins in this low budget 80’s slasher romp.

UNIVERSAL SONY PICTURES
Hard Target (1993): Director: John Wood. Starring: Jean-Claude Van Damme, Lance Henriksen. (Blu-ray)
A woman hires a drifter as her guide through New Orleans in search of her father, who has gone missing. They discover a deadly game of cat and mouse behind his disappearance in the process. The real star of this film is Van Dammes epic 90’s mullet. Don’t mess with the mullet!

Jesus Christ Superstar (1973): Director: Norman Jewison. Starring: Melvyn Bragg. Starings: Ted Neeley, Carl Anderson, Yvonne Elliman. (Blu-ray)
Don’t let the title put you off. This one of the most psychedelic film ever made. It’s an anachronistic retelling of the last week of Christ’s life. Regardless of your faith you’re in for one hell of a ride.

In the 90’s we had a rash of movies that were described as “Die Hard in a (INSERT LOCATION). Sudden Death is no exception. It’s Die Hard in a Hockey Game. A disgraced former fireman takes on a group of terrorists holding the Vice President and others hostage during the seventh game of the NHL Stanley Cup finals.

The life of Jesus Christ, His journey through life as He faces the temptations that all humans face during their lives, and His final temptation upon the cross.
