CROWD FUNDING CAMPAIGN OF THE WEEK: UPSIDEDOWN CROSS
Hey Monster Fiends,
Each week we’re going to be looking at crowd funding campaign. This week we have Upsidedown Cross.
After a nine year hiatus, exploitation filmmaker, William Hellfire is back, with what looks to be his best film to date.
The synopsis reads ‘Abandoned, abused by the police and in the throes of withdrawal, Nadine, a drug addicted young prostitute, returns to her childhood home and the mother she ran away from. Nadine’s mother, Delilah; a fanatical Christian who believes demons have possessed her daughter, searches for a “cure” for Nadine’s erratic behaviour.
When she finds a rogue preacher willing to exorcise her daughter for a fee, neither realizes they have invited the devil into their home. While her mother turns a blind eye to the bizarre practices unfolding in her own home, Nadine, wracked with mental and physical pain, has no choice but to put up with the preacher’s increasingly violent charade.’
William Hellfire probably isn’t a name known to many people outside of North America. Hellfire emerged in the late 90’s with a slew of no budget, subversive underground films that combined sleaze, horror and depravity. He’s best known for Duck! The Carbine High Massacre, which was a satire of the Columbine High School Massacre; An Erotic Werewolf in London and The Devil’s Bloody Playthings. He also discovered Misty Mundae aka Erin Brown, and is the co-host of the wildly popular Alternative Cinema podcast.
Hellfire was arrest after the making of Duck! The Carbine High Massacre.
WHY SHOULD YOU DONATE.
With over 30 films to his credit, Hellfire has a proven track record of getting movies made and distributed. If you donate there’s an extremely high chance the film will get made.
The film has a very unusual cast. It will feature David Yow from the band, The Jesus Lizard, porn legend Rick Savage as well also other well known working actors.
The Perks look decent enough, mostly dvds and original artwork. The most interesting would be a limited edition Chick track comic.
WHY SHOULDN’T YOU DONATE.
Hellfire has been given few opportunities to really prove himself as a filmmaker. The far majority his work comprised of no budget, quickly made sexploitation film made for a fetish audience. But saying that, his limitation as a filmmaker seems to have more to do with his budget, and the low demands of his audience, not his talent.
FINAL VEDICT!
If you love old school, 80‘s horror films – Donate! Hellfire is looking to mature himself as a filmmaker while still delivering all the f*cked up sleazy sh*t we’ve come to expect.
