MIFF is a month away, preview some titles!

It is hard to believe MIFF (Melbourne International Film Festival) is almost upon us again, has it already been a year? Apparently so!

Monster fiends, I am sure you all love the big festival, which starts July 31st, so why not take a look at some titles we know are playing.

The entire program will be released on July 11th, along with ticket sales, be sure to check out their website MIFF.com.au or download the app.

Get the info on some up coming screenings by Cinemaniacs in Melbourne

Our friends over at Cinemaniacs have been hosting a bunch of awesome film screenings in Melbourne over the past 2 years, and their upcoming screenings are very exciting.

Next month they are hosting a screening of GODSPELL, on July 12th at The Backlot Studios, starting at 8pm – tickets are $15. Then on July 19th they will be screening INDIANA JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM, same details with tickets at $10.

Live in Melbourne? Here’s your chance to see FORBIDDEN ZONE on the big screen!

This one is for the lovers of the bizarre and cult cinema, here is your chance to catch the classic FORBIDDEN ZONE on the big screen with thanks to FakeShemp.net and Valhalla Social Cinema. The film screens later this month on June 28th at 31 Arden Street North Melbourne, doors open at 7pm and the screening commences at 8:30pm.

Oh dear, the next PARANORMAL ACTIVITY film has been delayed

If there are still any fans of the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY franchise prepare to get your heart broken, there will be no new film this October, in fact there will be no new film at all this year or next year!

Yup Paramount has delayed PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 5 until 2016! That is a huge delay, and probably a good thing because it feels like these films have just become so stale and boring (at least to me). Argento’s THE SANDMAN gains Iggy Pop

So this piece of news is coming out the Fantasia Frontieres Film Market Selections, with a new Dario Argento film in the works called THE SANDMAN.

What adds to this piece though is that non other than Iggy Pop has been cast for this! Yes Iggy Pop, that is an exciting prospect!

The film will be based on a script by David Tully, and it will be aiming to get some funding later this year when it gets presented at the Frontières International Co-Production Market, at Fantasia.

We will certainly be watching this one closely.

Fox’s FRANKENSTEIN project takes on a new name

So this week we saw the unveiling of a poster for a new take on the Dracula legend, and today we have news on another classic film monster.

Fox have in the works a new take on Mary Shelley’s FRANKENSTEIN, and the film which was simply titled FRANKENSTEIN has had a name change. No nothing too drastic, it’ll be now known as VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN. Perhaps this is to make it clear to audiences that the monster itself was never called Frankenstein, and that was the name of his creator? It could work I guess.

There’s a new Dracula film coming this October

This news caught The Monsters Eye by a bit of a surprise, did you know there is a Dracula film coming out in Australia this October? No? Yes?

Well folks there IS, this one is called DRACULA UNTOLD, and it will be distributed by Universal Pictures Australia. The film has been directed by Gary Shore, whose only other credit is for THE DRAFT. The cast is actually fairly impressive including Luke Evans (as Vlad Tepes), Dominic Cooper, Charlie Cox and Sarah Gadon.
