GRAVITY

Release Date: Oct 3rd

A medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space.

This film has been getting amazing reviews, and and this sci-fi/thriller is said to be very intense and realistic. It stars Hollywood big wigs Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. When I first saw the trailer, I actually for motion sick! This will be available to watch in 2D and 3D.

Oct-02

RUSH

Release Date: Oct 3rd

Set against the sexy, glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing in the 1970s, the film is based on the true story of a great sporting rivalry between handsome English playboy James Hunt (Hemsworth), and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Austrian driver Niki Lauda (Bruhl). The story follows their distinctly different personal styles on and off the track, their loves and the astonishing 1976 season in which both drivers were willing to risk everything to become world champion in a sport with no margin for error: if you make a mistake, you die

This one is sure to please fans of the actors involved, fans of F1 and Ron Howard fans. It seems the director has gone back on the wagon after the not so good THE DILEMMA. With Chris Hemsworth starring as James Hunt, this is one for everyone.

His office burst into flames without any sign and the joyful party became a panicky escape.

This one is by the Pang Brothers, who have quite the fanbase! You can find this at selected Hoyts cinemas across the country www.hoyts.com.au/movies/2013/out_of_inferno.aspx

2 GUNS

Release Date: Oct 10th

A DEA agent and a naval intelligence officer find themselves on the run after a botched attempt to infiltrate a drug cartel. While fleeing, they learn the secret of their shaky alliance: Neither knew that the other was an undercover agent.

Here is a good ol’ fashioned action film, with two leads that are generally pretty good (hopefully Wahlberg does good here so I can forgive him for PAIN & GAIN). Enjoy action on the big screen when you can, it is a genre that needs support.

Oct-05

THE FAMILY

Release Date: Oct 10th

The Manzoni family, a notorious mafia clan, is relocated to Normandy, France under the witness protection program, where fitting in soon becomes challenging as their old habits die hard.

DeNiro does mob comedy again, this time married to Michelle Pfeiffer. This is one that could go either way, it has had a mixed reaction and comedy does have that certain appeal.

Oct-06

PATRICK

Release Date: Oct 17th

PATRICK is a shock-laden, slow-burning chiller that climaxes with a breathless and bloody fight for survival. The haunting story, set in an old nursing home, stars Sharni Vinson (Step Up 3D, Bait 3D, You’re Next), Academy Award nominee Rachel Griffiths (Hilary and Jackie, Six Feet Under, Muriel’s Wedding) and playing Dr. Sebastian Roget Charles Dance (Game Of Thrones, Gosford Park, Alien 3), a renegade neurologist operating on the fringes of medical science.

Australian horror and a remake! This film debuted at MIFF and audiences were buzzing about it. This comes from director Mark Hartley, the man behind the amazing documentaries NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD and MACHETE MAIDENS UNLEASHED.

Oct-07

PRISONERS

Release Date: Oct 17th

When Keller Dover’s daughter and her friend go missing, he takes matters into his own hands as the police pursue multiple leads and the pressure mounts. But just how far will this desperate father go to protect his family?

Gritty crime drama that has had amazing reviews, this is said to be harrowing and hard hitting. With a really strong cast and a story that will surely hit a lot of people, this one is shaping up to be a must see.

Oct-08

CAPTAIN PHILLIPS

Release Date: Oct 24th

The true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.

Not surprising to see Tom Hanks starring in the true story of the 2009 hijacking of a US cargo ship by Somali pirates. This does seem interesting, and true story films are really ones you can’t bet on. Sometimes they come off as Oscar bait, other times they do actually deliver the goods.

Oct-09

MACHETE KILLS

Release Date: Oct 24th

The U.S. government recruits Machete to battle his way through Mexico in order to take down an arms dealer who looks to launch a weapon into space.

A sequel to MACHETE, this one is sure to please fans of the original and hopefully please fans of exploitation cinema. This one seems to have upped the ante, the cast is huge and Charlie Sheen as Carlos Estevez plays the President!

Oct-10

THOR: THE DARK WORK

Release Date: Oct 31st

Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Another comic book film, and the 2nd film in October to star home grown talent Chris Hemsworth. Need we say anything on this? It’ll get in crowds for sure.
